Abstract

His period as a playwright is now almost forgotten and buried under his la ter career as critic and historian of the Catalan theatre. Whereas, until the mid 60's he was most enlightened to become an author of stagings.

Since Partits pel mig (1955) (originally written in Spanish, as well as sorne other plays) one may observe an ideological evolution from a young Fa.bregas, restless but little informed, to another more clearly defined as a man of a political position against Franco in Aquesta terra (1964 ). There is a constant, anyhow, from the very beginning, a spontaneous scepticism that made him feel more comfortable and sincere when treating characters and themes with humor and irony rather than going on more dramatic and serious ways. Opositor a cadáver (1959-1960) maybe is the most clear and evident illustration of this constant.

After he felt completely integrated in the Catalan culture and having abandoned his career as theatre author, he still backslided to sorne playwright exercises, based on the manipulation and reconsidering of texts of the 19th century, almost forgotten until that moment.
